PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Description
The Halo Versa 16 is a propane pizza oven that turns the pizza for you. A 16 inch cordierite stone sits on a motorized carousel and rotates under two burners, an infrared burner below the stone and a U shaped burner across the back, so every edge of the crust sees the same heat and the one thing that ruins most first pizzas, a missed turn, is designed out. The chamber reaches up to 950°F and is ready in about 12 minutes, a 16 inch pizza cooks in under 5, and the whole oven weighs 44 lb, runs on a 20 lb tank or a 1 lb cylinder, and lifts into a car. Crustify is an authorized Halo dealer, and the Versa 16 ships by parcel.
We carry it as the first oven we recommend. Most entry ovens ask a beginner to learn launching, turning and timing on the same night, and turning is where the pizzas die; the Versa 16 takes that one off the list, and the infrared burner under the stone recharges the floor between pizzas so the fourth cooks like the first. This page covers the rotating stone and why it stays on, the two burners, propane and the natural gas kit, how it is built, where it can sit under Halo's own clearance rules, the first cook and the care, how it compares to the other gas ovens we sell, and the Halo accessories we list for it.

The Rotating Stone
Every pizza oven has a hot side. In a dome or a box oven the flame is at the back or along one wall, the crust nearest it cooks first, and the cook turns the pizza with a peel every 20 or 30 seconds to even it out; miss one turn and you get a black crescent on an otherwise good pizza. The Versa 16 does the turning in the oven. The 16 inch cordierite stone sits in a tray on a motor driven turntable and revolves under the burners for the whole bake, so the back burner's heat reaches every edge in turn and the infrared burner below keeps the floor even. Cordierite is the material because it holds heat and gives it straight into the base of the crust, which is where the leopard spotting and the crisp underside come from.
The motor runs on the AC adapter in the box or on two D batteries, about 36 hours a set by Halo's figure, so it works at the tailgate as well as the patio. The stone is double sided; Halo suggests keeping one face for pizza and the other for everything else so the dough does not pick up last week's dinner.
Why the rotation stays on
The rotation is not a convenience you can skip. The infrared burner heats the stone from one spot below, and a stone that sits still over it heats unevenly and can crack; Halo's manual says the turntable must be on while the oven preheats and warns against running the oven with it off. The button on the motor is a pause, and the manual tells you exactly when to use it: stop the stone to launch so the dough does not fold on a moving floor, start it again, stop it to pull the pizza. Rotation on for the preheat and the bake, paused for the two seconds a peel is in the oven.
Two Burners: Infrared Below, a U Burner Above
Halo's dual burner system is rated at 21,100 BTU: an 11,500 BTU infrared burner under the stone tray that drives heat up through the cordierite into the crust, and a 9,600 BTU U shaped burner across the back of the chamber that does the cheese and the toppings from above. Together they bring the chamber to a rated 950°F with the stone around 750°F, in about 12 minutes from lighting, which is quicker to cooking ready than most of the full size ovens we sell.
The burner under the stone is the answer to pizza number four. A stone that coasts on stored heat loses some to every pizza and stalls by the third; a stone heated from below recovers in a couple of minutes while you stretch the next one, so a table of six gets fed at the same pace from first to last. Halo's routine for a cooler stone is the opposite trick: turn the knob to Low and wait ten minutes, and the floor drops gently to where a thicker crust or a pan wants it. Our pizza oven temperature guide covers what each reading on the hood gauge is good for.
One knob runs both burners, from Light and High down to Low, with a push button igniter beside it on a single AA battery and a match light method through the open hood if the spark ever fails. Halo's lighting order matters on this oven: open the cylinder valve fully first, then turn the knob to High, wait three seconds for gas to reach the burners, and press the igniter until both burners are lit; the regulator reads negative pressure if you turn the knob before the valve is open and the burners will not light.
A good flame is blue with a little yellow at the tips; check it before every cook by lighting and turning from High to Low and watching it shrink. Spiders like the burner tubes, so Halo asks for an inspection at least once a year and foil over the burners when the oven is stored.
Propane, and Natural Gas by Kit
Both regulators are in the box: a quick connect regulator for a 1 lb cylinder, which screws on and sits at an angle beside the oven for travel, and a 27 1/2 inch hose and regulator for a 20 lb tank at home. The 20 lb regulator is adjustable, 11 inches of water column for normal cooking and a 9.5 inch setting that takes the whole range down a notch for lower temperature work. At 21,100 BTU a 20 lb tank is roughly 20 hours at full output, and a real session uses less once the chamber is hot. Leak test with soapy water at every connection after every tank change, never run a cylinder upside down, and keep the hose off the hot shell.
For a patio with a gas stub, Halo makes a natural gas conversion kit for the Versa 16, HZ-3001-A, with a 10 foot quick disconnect hose, the orifices and the tools, and we list it. Two cautions from the dealer side: the infrared burner's gas line sits tight against the front of the oven and owners say the swap wants longer wrenches than the ones in the kit, and natural gas carries less energy per volume than propane, so owners who convert report a lower peak than the propane rating. If 950°F is the reason you are buying, cook on propane; if never running out of gas is the reason, the kit is the answer, and a licensed installer makes the connection.
How It Is Built
The body is high temperature powder coated steel with 430 stainless on the wear surfaces, 43.54 lb assembled, on four legs that bolt on with eight M6 screws. The hood hinges open on the whole chamber for loading the stone, cleaning and anything that is not pizza, and it closes with a latching strap on each side; Halo's rule is lid closed and straps latched before lighting. A gauge in the hood reads the chamber. Below the stone tray a clean out tray catches what falls through, and it slides out. There is no chimney and nothing to cure: assembly is the legs, the knob, the motor on four screws, the clean out tray and the stone, about ten minutes with the hardware in the box, and then the first preheat.
Where It Sits
The Versa 16 is a countertop oven, 22.44 inches wide, 24.59 deep and 14.84 tall, on a level surface that can take the heat: an outdoor kitchen counter, a solid table, or Halo's countertop cart, which makes it freestanding and puts the tank and the peel in the drawer below. The feet are 17 1/4 inches apart at the front and 15 at the back. Outdoors only, never in a garage or under a roof that encloses it, and never unattended. Halo's manual states the clearances the way CSA writes them: never within 10 feet of any structure, combustible material or other gas cylinder, and never within 25 feet of flammable liquids. Halo's own photos show the oven on a balcony; our advice is to read that page of the manual before you plan the spot, and to send us a photo if you are unsure. Our where to put a pizza oven post walks the siting questions.
From the Box to the First Pizza
Set it up, season the stone the way Halo describes, a rinse in warm water and a towel dry and then a high fat bake like crescent rolls to start the surface seasoning, and run the first preheat at full for the 12 minutes plus a few extra to burn off the manufacturing residue. Then the routine: rotation on, cylinder open, knob to High, igniter, 12 minutes with the hood closed. Flour the peel, build the pizza on it, shake it to be sure it slides, pause the stone, launch, restart the stone, close the hood, and open it at four minutes to look rather than every thirty seconds. Pause the stone again to pull it. Thin crust at full heat is under five minutes; a thicker pie or a pan wants the Low and wait trick. Halo's cooling tip is worth knowing for a tailgate: open the hood all the way with gloves on and the shell is cool enough to carry in about 15 minutes, with the stone the part that stays hot.
Cooking and Care
Past pizza, the hinged hood and the rotating stone make a small roasting oven: wings, a tray of vegetables, flatbread, a skillet that turns under the back burner and browns like a broiler. Halo's guidance is that cookware 12 inches and under with handles fits, that most of what you make in the kitchen oven you can make here in a fraction of the time, and that casseroles and bakes want two sheets of foil over the pan so the top burner does not scorch them. Thaw dense frozen food first; a frozen pizza is fine. Our wood fired vs gas post is the honest version of what a gas oven gives up for the convenience.
Care is the stone and the burners. Let the stone cool completely, scrape it with a nylon scraper or spatula, soak it in clear hot water only if something is baked on, rinse and dry it; no soap, no dishwasher, because the seasoning holds the soap and the next crust tastes of it, and no cold water on a hot stone, which is how cordierite cracks. A darkening stone is a stone working properly. Empty the clean out tray, wipe the inside of the hood, check the hose for cuts before each use, cover the burners with foil for storage, and store the oven indoors with the cylinder disconnected and left outside. Halo's fitted cover is the right add if it lives on the patio, and the stone cleaning kit is the scraper and brush made for the job. Our pizza oven maintenance guide covers the rest.

The Versa 16 is the one that teaches itself. The Kucht Napoli is the countertop gas oven for the buyer who wants to learn the peel and match the kitchen; the Summerset is the step up when the oven is going into an outdoor kitchen and wood is on the menu; the L'Argilla is gas with the heat and the look of a dome. Every gas oven we carry is in the Gas collection, every oven for a counter is in the Countertop collection, and the Versa 16 and its accessories are in the Halo collection. Our what outdoor pizza ovens cost post shows where it sits on price.
Who Should Buy the Versa 16, and Who Should Not
Buy the Versa 16 if this is your first pizza oven and you want good pizza on the first night rather than the fifth; if you cook most weeks for a family and need the pace between pizzas; if you tailgate or camp and want a real oven on a 1 lb cylinder; or if the last portable you owned made one good pizza and three burnt ones. The rotating stone and the burner under it are built for exactly those buyers, and at this price nothing else we sell serves them better.
Do not buy it if the flavor of a wood fire is the point; it is gas only, and our wood fired ovens are where smoke and char live. Do not buy it for an outdoor kitchen opening; a built in oven is the answer there. Do not buy it if you need two or three pizzas cooking at once; one rotating 16 inch stone is one pizza at a time. And do not buy it if the only place it can sit is tighter than Halo's clearances allow. Our pizza oven buying guide walks the whole decision.
What to Order With It
The oven comes with its stone, both regulators, the AC adapter and the hood gauge; you supply one AA for the igniter, two D cells if you cook away from an outlet, and the propane. We list Halo's accessories for it: the cook and serve kit with the peels, mezzaluna cutter, server and tongs, the fitted cover, the stone cleaning kit, the countertop cart and the natural gas conversion kit. An infrared thermometer from our accessories collection reads the stone, which is the number a pizza cares about. Accessories ordered with the oven ship with it.

The Versa 16 and its rotating stone in action
Assembly and setup, from the box to the first preheat
A walkthrough of the Versa 16's features and controls
INSTALLATION GUIDE & USER MANUAL
Assembly. One box, 55 lb. Lift out the stone tray assembly and set it aside, pull the packaging, bolt the four legs on with the eight M6 screws and fit the knob, mount the motor with four M6 screws, plug the white switch cable into the motor and the black adapter cord or two D batteries, and put one AA in the igniter. Slide in the clean out tray, set the stone tray assembly in and rotate it until it engages the motor socket, and set the stone on it. Latch the straps.
Gas. Knob off. For a 20 lb tank, snap the quick connect regulator into the fitting on the side of the oven, thread the hose to the tank, open the tank valve slowly and soap test every joint; for a 1 lb cylinder, screw the cylinder into the small regulator by hand, snap it into the quick connect, and let it sit at its natural angle beside the oven. The 20 lb regulator's cap pulls to switch between 11 and 9.5 inches of water column. Never a cylinder upside down, never a spare cylinder under or near the oven.
Lighting. Press the rotation button so the stone is turning. Open the cylinder valve all the way, then push and turn the knob to Light/High, wait three seconds, and press the igniter until both burners are lit. If it does not light, knob off, wait five minutes, try again; the match light method is through the open hood with an 11 inch match. Preheat 12 minutes with the hood closed.
Cooking. Pause the stone, launch, restart the stone, close the hood. Thin pizza in under five minutes at full heat; for a thicker crust or a pan, turn to Low and wait ten minutes before launching. Pause the stone to retrieve. Pans 12 inches and under with handles; foil over casseroles.
Shutting down. Knob off, cylinder valve closed, regulator disconnected and capped if the oven is going inside. To cool it fast for travel, open the hood fully with gloves on; the shell is carryable in about 15 minutes, the stone stays hot longer. Wrap the stone separately for the road.
Care. Cool stone, nylon scraper, clear hot water only if needed, no soap, dry before storing. Empty the clean out tray, wipe the hood, check the hose, inspect the burner tubes for insects at least yearly and foil them for storage, cover the oven outdoors or store it indoors with the cylinder left outside.

WARRANTY INFORMATION
Term. Halo Products Group warrants the Versa 16 to the original purchaser, bought from an authorized retailer, against defects in workmanship and materials under normal home use: five years on the cooking firebox and its components, the burners, the pizza stone and tray, and the control knob; one year on electrical components, which includes the rotation motor and igniter; one year on paint. United States and Canada only; not transferable.
What it covers and does not. Function, not finish: scratches, dents, rust, heat discoloration of the stainless and paint touch ups are excluded, and so are damage from misuse, accident, improper installation, commercial use and weather. Repair or replacement of the defective part is the remedy; the buyer pays shipping on replacement parts, and Halo may ask for the part back. Proof of purchase is required for every claim; registering the oven is encouraged but does not replace the receipt.
Claims. Contact us first with photos and your order number and we handle it with Halo, whose support line is 1-833-572-1688; returns to Halo need a return authorization number on the box. Shipping damage is separate: report it within 48 hours of delivery.
